There’s no getting away from the fact that prices are rising and it’s not just energy bills that people are bracing themselves for this winter.

Britons have been telling the cost of the food shop is also a big worry and they are spending up to £1,440 extra a year on the same food items.

Last week, ONS figures showed the price of pasta has risen by almost two thirds (68 percent), while tea (46 percent), chips (39 percent), bread (38 percent) and biscuits (34 percent) all rose by more than a third over the last 12 months.

Michelle Friend, 56, from Bristol, said it means she has to shop around for the best deals in order to save money.
